Peter was their friend
He was a Marauder
They trusted him
He wasn’t stupid
STOP DESTROYING THE TRAGEDY OF IT ALL BY MAKING PETER SOME STUPID IDIOT THAT THEY DIDN’T WANT AROUND BECAUSE JAMES AND LILY WOULD NEVER PUT THEIR LIVES AND THE LIFE OF THEIR SON IN THE HANDS OF A BUMBLING IDIOT THAT THEY DIDN’T LIKE AND CONSIDER A DEAR FRIEND

Calvin’s snowmen are breathtaking achievements and I will accept no disputes
I freaking love Calvin’s snowmen
They forgot the best one though!
We never got enough snow to do this after we moved into town. It made me sad.

There’s a post going around that begins: ”one of the things about Moffat is he’s not a particularly brave writer, is he?’
actions have no consequences, nobody dies in a way that’s not gently in their beds unless they come back two minutes later, the Doctor himself can’t get his hands dirty and commit genocide because think of the children.
I’ve been hemming and hawing about adding this comment to it, because it’s only half relevant. So here’s my half solution…
I feel like it’s because Moffat started his career writing sitcoms.
That’s not intended as an insult or an attack. Writing sitcoms is hard. Turning out something like Fawlty Towers or Dad’s Army… whoa. I couldn’t do it.
But it does require a rather different skillset to sci-fi drama, doesn’t it?
Really, really interesting analysis and dovetails quite nicely with the lost-somewhere-on-the-internet-and-I-can’t-find-it-again quote I read from him from waaaaay back when he had just taken the job where he says that sitcom-writing is hard (and it is, no quibbles with that) and drama-writing as easy (which it is only if you’re doing it wrong).
I’m just reblogging and commenting because I know that there are people in my dash that don’t agree with “Moffat Hate”, or, more particularly, with any kind of hate whatsoever, so, maaaybe, if we explain what we don’t like in nice terms that don’t frame him as “wrong”, but just… not doing a very good job of working for sci-fi standards, they’ll get what we mean. Thanks a lot for the analyses, op.
